About Us
Bergplaats covers 8500 hectares of pristine Karoo land set against the backdrop of a towering, rugged mountain. The farm accommodates 18 people in its suite of comfortable housing facilities, ranging from the luxurious to the authentic farm-style. The main facility - Gemsbok Lodge - is adjoined by an open air lapa, where guests dine and converse and make merry under the spectacular, star-studded Karoo night sky.
A range of activities awaits the traveller to Bergplaats. Intrepid souls can explore the stunning surrounds on horseback, while adventure-seekers can take to the veldt on one of our four-by-four tracks or quad biking routes. Nothing beats a sunset game drive in pursuit of the various species of antelope, including gemsbok, blue wildebeest, Eland & zebra, that populate the vast tracts of land. Bergplaats offers a world-class hunting experience and boasts its very own on-site butchery, where hunters can participate in the processing of their own meat, should they wish.

Children Entertainment
We are a child friendly facility and love children. There is a jungle gym, swimming pool, kids games and toys at the main lodge. Children can enjoy a quad ride with adults or one of our guides. We also take children for ponyrides on a lead rain. There are experienced baby sitters who can look after your children while the adults enjoy a guided game drive or walk. There are also short informative nature walks with our manager and game ranger specifically designed for kids.
Landing Strip
We have a landing strip that can be used by privately chartered aeroplanes.

Guided Walks
Morning and evening game walks with field/game rangers can be booked daily. Game walks range between two and five hours with grape juice, water and snacks served at various lookout points.
4x4 Mountain trails
There are many mountain trails in the Karoo and on Bergplaats Game Lodge. Trails are graded between 2-3 as per official grading received & GPS points will be provided . Maximum of 10 vehicles per group allowed.
Mountain Biking Trails
This is a 4x4 trail that is also suitable for mountain-biking. The trail is in the foothills of the Nueweveld Mountains and offers a number of serious rock obstacles, rapid descents and steep climbs as well as flat areas . The mountain route is definitely not for the novice cyclist but there are many routes in the flatter areas for novice riders. Spectacular mountain scenery along the way provides the added bonus of game-viewing opportunities. Possible sightings include blue wildebeest, blesbuck,eland, springbok, red hartebeest, rhebok and zebra.
Clay Pigeon Shooting
Clay pigeon shooting, formally known as Inanimate Bird Shooting, is the art of shooting at special flying targets, known as clay pigeons or clay targets, with a shotgun or any type of firearm. Please bring your own shotgun.
Target Shooting
Target Shooting is using either a Rifle, Pistol, Air Pistol or Shotgun to Shoot Pellets / Bullets at a Target. In a safe environment. The Target is either Paper, Card or Electronic for Rifle and Pistol, or for Shotgun the target is called a "bird".
Night Game Drives
The Karoo is completely different in the dark. With a spotter and a light we look and listen for the animals, its an amazing experience. Animal behavior is quite different at night so observing the animals in the dark is a big part of any safari.
