About Us

The Northern Tuli Game Reserve is a hidden gem. Tucked in the easternmost corner of Botswana, it is a unique, timeless part of Africa with spectacular wildlife, breathtaking landscapes and fascinating history.

Between Tuli’s time-sculpted kopjes and the legendary Limpopo River lies a most welcome surprise: Tuli Safari Lodge. A verdant oasis in a ruggedly beautiful wilderness. The yin to Tuli’s yang.

Just 11 elegant suites nestle in peaceful, spacious gardens shaded by ancient trees. Time spent in this relaxing retreat perfectly complements the varied safari adventures in the reserve beyond the lodge gates.

Such is the magical soul of Tuli. We look forward to sharing it with you.

  • Enjoying the lodge

Tuli Safari Lodge is quite unique in that it is such a relaxing retreat in its own right. As well as the simple pleasure of just chilling in this idyllic environment, there's lots to do within the lodge grounds ...

    • enjoy a refreshing dip in the large swimming pool, which has a small shallow section for children and is beautifully positioned by a secluded rocky outcrop
    • spot the wildlife visiting the pretty waterhole at the back of the lodge from the safety and comfort of our hide
    • enjoy panoramic views of the reserve overlooking a baobab-studded plain from our ‘star deck’ atop one of the sandstone kopjes - a great spot at any time of day but especially for sundowners
    • sit by the banks of the Limpopo River to soak up the atmosphere and spot passing wildlife
    • explore the wonderful walking trail we have established with in the lodge grounds
    • visit our curio shop for a lovely selection of crafts, books, Tuli clothing or a copy of the great Tuli Safari Lodge Choir CD to take home as a reminder of your stay

Just 11 elegant suites nestle in Tuli Safari Lodge's peaceful, spacious gardens.

Our 8 tented suites with draped canvas over timber frames are spacious, airy and elevated. Large wrap-around decks are designed to provide a relaxing outdoor space with views over the Tuli grounds and surrounding bush. The interiors are a modern take on classic 'out of Africa' décor, with a flowing open plan design. All suites feature an island bed, lounge area, freestanding bath, separate wet room shower, double basin vanity area, toilet and lots of all-important hanging and drawer space plus tea/coffee facilities, hairdryer and safe.

Each of our 3 classic suites is furnished and designed to the same high standard. Our classic suites are thatched with solid walls and air conditioning. Two have very similar internal layouts and features to our tented suites, with a shaded veranda area. The third is located in the heart of the main lodge area, with similar layout and features.

All the suites can be made up as doubles or twins and are large enough to accommodate two children under 12 on single beds sharing with their parents if required. We can pair suites for families or friends who would like some separation without being too far apart!

  • Safari activities

Each day brings a new adventure as Tuli Safari Lodge offers a truly authentic safari experience. You can set the pace and decide how much or how little in the way of safari activities you want to do.

For guests staying on a fully inclusive rate, a ‘normal’ day at Tuli Safari Lodge is as follows, with timings adjusted to meet our guests’ requirements and to suit the time of year:

    • Tea/coffee served in the lounge
    • Early morning guided safari activity activity (game drive or bush walk* or a combination of the two)
    • Brunch on your return – followed by time to rest, swim, soak up the sun, spot the wildlife around the lodge or take a stroll around our self-guided walking trail
    • High tea (including savoury and sweet options) served in the lounge or on the bar deck
    • Afternoon guided safari activity (game drive or bush walk* or a combination of the two), with snacks and sundowners before a twilight drive back to the lodge
    • Drinks & dinner

Bush walks give a real opportunity to experience Africa at ground level, taking in the sounds and smells of the bush as well as the sights. They aren't strenuous hikes, but gentle strolls. The slower pace also enables your guide to explain fascinating facts such as the traditional medicinal use of plants, or to understand more about the dramatic geology or interesting history of the area. In fact, if you have a particular area of interest the walk can be or tailored to that theme.

    Additional activities

For guests staying on a dinner, bed and brunch basis or for our fully inclusive guests who want to do something extra, there are lots of options during your stay at Tuli Safari Lodge. Please note there is an additional charge and a minimum number of participants for some of these activities.

    • Additional walks – two guided game activities per day are included in your stay, but subject to availability we can arrange additional guided walks for you. Bush walks give a real opportunity to experience Africa at ground level, taking in the sounds and smells of the bush as well as the sights. They are not energetic hikes but rather gentle strolls! The slower pace also enables your guide to explain fascinating facts such as the traditional medicinal use of plants, or to understand more about the dramatic geology or interesting history of the area. Please note that children must be aged over 12 to participate in bush walks.
    • Hides – there are several hides situated at key sites across the Tuli reserve. You can spend time in these with your guide as part of a morning or afternoon drive, or if you prefer you can spend some time on your own at the hides with just your binoculars, some drinks and snacks for company.
    • There is also the option of sleeping out at one of our hides overnight, subject to availability. This hide is equipped with a simple bathroom and a spotlight. Please discuss this option with your guide or one of our management team for further information.
    • Horse rides – we can arrange for morning/afternoon or day rides with a well-established horseback safari operator based a few minutes from the lodge. Please note that this activity is for experienced riders only.
    • Community visit – an opportunity to visit the local village of Mothlabaneng. Our tour includes a visit to the school, a wine-tasting experience with a difference (at the lala-palm ‘distillery’) and a chance to see traditional basket-weaving, as well as the opportunity to see some of our community projects in action. Community visits are normally in the afternoon and last approx. 2 hours – exact details are dependent on the time of year so please check with the management team. 50% of all community visit activity fees is donated to our community fund to assist with the funding of various community projects.
    • After dinner drive – an optional extra if you are keen to try and spot some true nocturnal species and if you’re really lucky you might catch a glimpse of our resident aardvark!
    • Visit to the confluence – a morning trip across the Eastern section of the reserve to the confluence of the Shashe and Limpopo rivers, the unique and scenic spot where two great African rivers and three countries (Botswana, South Africa and Zimbabwe) meet. A picnic brunch is included.
    • Day trip to Mapungubwe with Mopane Bush Lodge – Mapungubwe is a World Heritage Site and National Park just across the border in South Africa, believed to be the site of the first African kingdom dating back a thousand years. This day trip includes return transfers from Pont drift border post, a guided World Heritage Site tour to Mapungubwe Hill, a guided game drive exploring the wildlife and scenery of the national park (including the Confluence Site overlooking a unique and scenic spot where two great African rivers – the Limpopo and the Shashe – and three countries – Botswana, South Africa and Zimbabwe – met; and the Canopy Walk), a packed lunch with refreshments and all entry/park fees. This trip is subject to availability and requires a minimum 24hr booking notice. Rate to be confirmed.
    • Self-guided walking trail around the lodge grounds - enjoy a short self-guided walking trail of approx. 0.5km around the lodge grounds. The trail is marked by way of painted arrow markers, leading from the main entrance gate, through an area of riverine trees down towards the banks of the Limpopo River, across Tuli’s lovely gardens and back towards the main lodge area. Common animal sightings during the nature trail experience include bushbuck, squirrels, vervet monkeys, baboons, banded mongoose and warthogs with 90 birds counted by some enthusiastic birders in just one morning!
